Respectful Relationships Initiative

Promoting respectful relationships and gender equality to stop violence against women and girls before it starts.

Sport is an integral part of Australian culture. It is woven into the fabric of the everyday lives of many Australian individuals, families and communities.

To prevent violence against women we need to have conversations and educate people where they ‘live, work, socialise and play’.

On and off the field, sport provides the environment and opportunity to set and reinforce positive community standards about respect and equality. It can challenge problematic norms, practices and structures to drive cultural change.

The partnership between SportWest and Starick will support sporting clubs and organisations to create lasting change and foster an environment that is safe, respectful and inclusive for all members, volunteers, families and spectators.

“We know that violence against women is preventable and needs a whole of community effort.  Our partnership with SportWest means Starick’s Respectful Relationships Program can support sporting organisations to raise awareness about family and domestic violence and create playing spaces that are respectful and safe for the whole community.”  - Leanne Barron CEO Starick

This initiative is proudly delivered in partnership with Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport through their ongoing commitment to the True Sport Program. Their support has been instrumental in helping us deliver programs that promote respect, equality, and positive cultural change in sport.

Join Starick’s Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program!

Starick’s Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation Program harnesses the power of sport and recreation to drive positive cultural change. In partnership with SportWest, Starick is engaging the Western Australian sporting community to help prevent gender-based and family and domestic violence.

Using an evidence-based, primary prevention approach, the program provides tailored resources and support for sport administrators, volunteers, members, players, and the broader community. Together, we aim to foster safe, respectful, and inclusive environments built on gender equality and non-violence.

Registrations are now open for the next intake of the program, which includes a workshop on Wednesday, 15 October 2025.

This interactive workshop will:

  • Explore practical strategies to embed respect, equality, and safety across sport and recreation organisations
  • Deepen participants’ understanding of the link between disrespect and family and domestic violence
  • Support clubs to plan initiatives to create cultural change within their organisations.

If you have any questions, please contact the Starick team at rrsrp@starick.org.auor call (08) 9478 5300.

Registrations are required by no later than Wednesday, 1 October 2025.
